How the Bali Film Location Desk Works

Bali Film Location is run as a working scouting desk, not as a directory of headshots. This page explains who answers your brief, how a location file is assembled, and what we will and will not claim about a site before you commit a crew to it.

A Desk, Not a Personality

Production briefs do not arrive addressed to a single person, and we do not pretend otherwise. Enquiries land with the Bali Film Location editorial desk, and the person who replies is whoever is closest to the location in question that week. That arrangement is deliberate. A scout who walked a beach in March knows things about tide, glare and access that no profile page can carry, and we would rather route your question to that knowledge than to a name.

How a Location File Is Built

Every location we list starts as a visit, not as a photograph borrowed from somewhere else. Someone goes, walks the ground, notes where a truck can park, where the sun sits in the late afternoon, and how long it takes to move a lighting package from the road to the frame. Those notes become the location file. When a file is thin because we have only seen a place once, we say the file is thin rather than dressing it up.

What We Confirm Before You Travel

Permission in Bali is layered. A landowner may agree while the village council has not been asked, and a site inside a temple boundary carries obligations that no commercial contract overrides. Before a shoot date is treated as firm, we confirm access with the party who can actually grant it, and we write down who that party was. Where a permission has not yet been confirmed against an official or customary source, we say so plainly in the file instead of implying it is settled.

What We Do Not Claim

We are not permit agents and we do not present this desk as one, and we publish no qualifications for the people who answer it. Fees, government charges and processing times change without notice, so any figure we quote is described as an indication and dated, and we will point you to the office that issues the final word. If a request falls outside what we can verify, the honest answer is that we cannot verify it, and that is the answer you will get.

Reaching the Desk

Send the brief rather than the job title: what you are shooting, roughly when, how many people and vehicles, and whether the frame needs water, cliff, rice terrace or interior. A location shortlist with honest notes is more useful to you than a promise, and that is what comes back.
